Add “Open with Notepad” to the context menu for any file

Many files on your hard drive are, by default, impossible to open because not recognised. However, in most cases, the notepad (or notepad) is enough to edit them. Make your life easier by adding the Open with Notepad function to the context menu.

To do this, open the start Menu, enter regedit and do Entry.

Look for the following key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell

Right-click on the key shell and opt for Nouveau then Key. Name this key Open with Notepad (this name will correspond to the title of the context menu). Then create a new one key under Open with Notepad and name it command.

Select the key command and, on the right side, edit the default key already present by double-clicking it. Enter the value notepad.exe %1 and click on OK.

The changes take effect immediately. You can close the Register and admire the result:

A very practical and useful feature: note that Notepad ++ does this by default if you have installed that’s the last one.
