SkyDrive, the Microsoft Dropbox-like available for free

SkyDrive, l'application de cloud storage gratuite par Microsoft disponible sur toutes les plateformes

Microsoft just released yesterday (1 day before Google Drive), the long-awaited application to synchronise files and folders in the cloud (25 GB max) and that for free, I named SkyDrive. Dropbox has nothing to do with it!

Download the SkyDrive app

Start by downloading the application(s) SkyDrive depending on the OS/peripheral used via this link:

SkyDrive for Windows, MacOS, iPhone, iPad and Windows Phone 7.5 (28.2) KiB, 1,356 downloads)

Installing the SkyDrive application: case for Windows

Once the download is complete, run the application to start the installation.

Click on the button Start.

Enter your Live/Hotmail account credentials.

Select folder location SkyDrive via the button Change. Everything you put in this folder will be synchronised in the cloud with your other devices namely PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Windows Phone. Then click on Next.

Check the box Make files on this PC available to me on my other devices (i.e. you activate the sync now) and click on Completed.

If everything went well, the new file SkyDrive appears and the application starts synchronisation of your existing documents in the cloud.

You will notice that the application runs in the same way as Dropbox via an animated icon (synchronisation status function) in the notification area of the taskbar.

Note that by default you have 7 GB of free storage. You can have 25 GB of one click and there again by going to SkyDrive.com (right-click on the SkyDrive icon and then Go to SkyDrive.com). In the left bar at the bottom, click on the link Manage storage then on the button Free Upgrade in the first row of the table.

Now you get 25 GB of free cloud storage!

All you have to do is copy and sync files to your newly deployed SkyDrive folder. Everything is transparent to the user. Sync a file from your smartphone and it will be automatically downloaded to your Mac or PC...

In the end SkyDrive turns out to be a essential application, free of charge, in French, cross-platform: in short, a must-have that could hurt Dropbox.

    Good morning
At the end of the installation, I get an error message: “SkyDrive cannot be used with full administrator rights. Restart Skydrive without administrator rights”. How to solve this problem?
    Thank you

  • The cloud war is raging!

    And it’s so much better

I am adorning a little jewel called Wimi that allows you to manage his projects online with his team.

Little capacity in its free version, I hope the team will make at least an effort to lower prices.

Personally, I no longer use my DD for my box.

Last year I was stole my cell phone, 1/4h after the purchase of the new I was starting to work again thanks the cloud

    Good morning

It would appear that only the default option of 7 GB of free storage is available, as the update to the free 25 GB is not offered.

    Well cordialemernt,
    Philippe

For info my ranking that only hires me!)
    1/GOOGLE DRIVE 5 GB FREE
    2/DROPBOX 2 GB FREE
    3/SKYDRIVE 25 GB FREE

voilou skydrive is in my opinion less simple than dropbox and less powerful than drive

Thank you for this interesting info. 25go, that’s appreciable. It is also possible to increase its capacity on Dropbox up to 16 GB free thanks to their sponsorship system.

I think for personal needs it’s nice. Windows integration is not bad but they are not the only ones to do it. Any storage space on an FTP server can appear as a network drive since the Windows XP era!
At work they have a subscription at http://www.transfert-fichiers.net/, paid but accessible by customers and personalised to the colors of the box.
