Delete “Resolve compatibility issues” from the context menu on Windows 7


You can't find any use in the “Resolve compatibility issues” option in the Windows 7 context menu of an application? So turn it off!

Open the start Menu, enter regedit and do Entry.

Think about performing a save the registry before any changes by reading our tutorial.

Look for the following key in the left tree:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers\Compatibility

In the right column, edit the default key and type a”  in front of the value to disable the key.

You can also remove it, but it is better to keep it if you want to reactivate the option afterwards.

For now, only the applications have been deleted the option Solve compatibility issues from the context menu.

To also apply to shortcuts, look for the following key using the left tree:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers\Compatibility

Same as before, edit the default key and add a”  in front of the value to disable the key.

The amendments shall take effect immediately. Close the Register and admire the result:

Despite deactivating this option from the context menu, this does not prevent you from applying compatibility settings via Properties then tab Compatibility.
